Visiting the Fortress of Hohenurach in Bad Urach, Germany

Some information

When staying Bad Urach, Germany at the youth hostel we also took the hiking trail up to some nearby ruins. It has always been fascinating for me to stand in a place that has existed for hundreds of years. I love to learn about what happened there and wonder how it used to look (if it is in ruins). It was a lot of fun exploring the different areas of these ruins with the kids and enjoying the scenic views of the valley beneath at the same time.  I am just happy that I wasn’t a prisoner here. 🙂

I always think it is incredible to visit historical sites. It is truly something that can’t be left out of a vacation to a foreign land…even just a neighboring city. These small time capsules of history show us so much more about ourselves, the past, and individual cultures.

As you continue to travel and explore history…the discoveries are endless.

The hike this weekend was nice though there is a lot of scaffolding now all over the ruins warning that the structure is unstable. I saw the rocks on one of the interior walls has fallen over now too sadly. Still a wonderful place for a hike and picnic!
