When staying in the youth hostel in Bad Urach, Germany during English Camp, we took the kids on a few excursions. Right next to the hostel was a hiking area that led to some beautiful waterfalls. The hike wasn’t too difficult, but had its steep areas. When we headed out it was beautiful and sunny, but we still suggested the kids bring a jacket along. It is not uncommon in Germany for it to suddenly start raining. Most of the kids followed our advice and were very happy that they did. On the way up the hill we did a team-building exercise for a “break” and then continued on up.
When we were about halfway up the trail the thunder started and within seconds about 10 minutes of torrential downpour ensued. We ran for shelter wherever it could be found, but all of us were soaked. The kids weren’t in the best of moods after that, but the waterfall was beautiful and worth the hike. The camera’s suffered from the sudden rain, and some pictures were all blurry or water-spotted. I tried to share what I could. Here are some pictures that I was able to get:
If you ever are in Bad Urach, Germany you should definitely make time to hike this beautiful trail. When you hike the opposite direction on the trail it takes you to some fascinating ruins. I will cover those in my next post. It’s definitely a valuable insight into the area you are visiting when you take in not only the city life, but also the natural surroundings. Germans are known for their love of the outdoors and hiking.
As you continue on your travels I am sure you will continue to see that the discoveries…big or small… are endless.
